I frequently purchase books through Amazon and this is the first time that I've had such a polarizing experience that I felt compelled to write a review. There is nothing to this book. As a new Egg owner, I was hoping this book would contain some helpful hints (unique to the Egg) on how to prepare coals in order to get the desired temperature, cooking duration, etc. for food preparation on the Egg. Instead, I received a book with a few marginal recipes that contains ZERO "how to" advice on any topic outside of how to construct an Egg out of the box. If you have any prior grilling knowledge (gas, charcoal or otherwise) save your money. This is no more useful than the assembly instruction provided on the manufacturer's website.

I read through this book in less than 30 minutes, while it gives a broad overview of cooking on the egg, it is missing the details to make this a useful cookbook. I purchased this hoping to find out more information about smoking temperatures, and what type of chips to use. The smoking chip descriptions were very standard, if you go to any BBQ place, the same descriptions are typically printed right on the bag of chips. I was hoping this book was created by an egghead, but after reading the recommendation of keeping a spray bottle of water near by for flareups I quickly realized this person has never cooked on an egg before! You NEVER use a spray bottle for flareups, you use your damper controls to eliminate flareups. Using water inside of a hot ceramic cooker is NOT RECOMMENDED! Go to the big green egg website and forum, there is more useful information and it's free, the only downfall is it takes a while to sift through the forum site. I would not recommend this book for purchase.

As I said in my comment to Pat's review, this kindle book is not worth the almost 9 bucks that I paid for it. Very generic information, it even talks about gas grills in one part! Would recommend not to buy this one :(

This item works great, but one piece ceramic legs are VERY easy to break,an expensive lesson I learned after only about the forth use.I bought an alternative product made by Ceramic Grill Store,and they actually have 3 different alternatives,each of them adding even more versatility. Worth checking out.

Great product, I have a Gourmet Pots Kamodo style grill and this fits it perfectly. The day after I got it, I smoked baby back ribs for 5 hours and the meat fell off the bone.

With a ceramic deflector in your Green Egg or other brand of smoker you can cook meats with indirect heat and all the smoke you want to generate. Meat comes out moist and smoked to perfection

Big Green Egg's Plate Setter is a flat ceramic disc with three legs that prevents direct heat or flair up on the cooking surface. The Plate Setter is designed to leave enough room around the sides to allow for adequate air flow around the cooking surface. Big Green Egg's Plate Setter can be used with the feet standing up or down. Set the feet down to provide a flat surface to lay a pizza or cooking stone to cook pizzas or cookies on! Turn the legs upright to set up an optimal convection oven style cook. Simply place the roast directly on top of the plate setter, or lay in a rib rack, sittin' chicken, vertical chicken or turkey stand for indirect slow cooking of meat or poultry. Funny thing, I fabricated one of these myself about two years ago and had every intention of going for a patent...but I obviously just took to long I guess. Whatever, this is a much smarter way to control airflow and keep the inside of the egg dry. For egg owners who have problems with condensate and mold, this will fix your problem, guaranteed. Construction seems very good and it just plains works.

I liked the heavy gauge of the grill, but our first one arrived with at least eight places where the porcelain had chipped off. Most chips were 1/4 by 1/4 or larger. Amazon replaced it, but the second arrived in at least as bad, if not worse, condition. I don't know if they were mishandled prior to shipping or the porcelain isn't adhering properly, but they were well protected during shipping and should never have left the warehouse.

Purchased this to act as a raised direct grid for my medium big green egg, BGE does not make a grid that can be used to cook at the felt line in a direct cook. After receiving, I discovered this grid will sit on either the fire ring or grid located on the fire ring, overing two cooking levels.
It appears to be well made and the finish was perfect.
Delivery was on time and as promised.

Use it all the time for Spatchcock chicken. Great for upper level cooking, a little tough to work underneath, but given the dimensions of the ceramic cooker, it is what it is...

I don't think this is worth the money -I purchased in August - while it worked great at lower temps (same as a wool gasket), I brought my egg up to 700 and the gasket is toast - it separated from the egg and burned in a spot or two. I have used wool and this, and for the money, wool is a better deal since I can get it at 1/3 the cost -- Highly disappointed.

Bought the product after the original gasket became flattened and hard. I noticed I couldn't keep my smoking temps down below 300 as I no longer had a good seal. I decided to try this product because I was disappointed the original gasket did not last very long - about a year and a half. Removing the old gasket was labor intensive and time consuming. After using razor blades and paint scrapers to get most of the old gasket off I was left with the adhesive residue which turned out to be the most difficult part to remove. After trying many different methods I ended up using very coarse sand paper to clean off the rest of the gasket residue. Had I known to use the sand paper I would have reduced the removal time of the old gasket from about 2.5 hours by about an hour. Using the sand paper I was able to get my egg perfectly clean with no discoloring left on the ceramics. I believe this is essential getting a new gasket to adhere properly and last a long time. A final wipe with acetone completed the job and the new gasket was very easy to apply with the adhesive backing following the instructions. 1 year later the gasket works perfectly after heavy use and is holding up much better than the original. I've had my egg up to 625 degrees and no problems yet. An advantage I discoverd over the original gasket is when liguids are dripped or spilled on the new gasket it does not seem to absorb them. I think this helps with longevity as I noticed spilled liguids on the original gasket would cause it to harden and shrink and it would not conform to the other side of the gasket in those areas. This gasket does not do that and remains soft and conforms to create a good air tight seal. After spending a couple of hours cleaning off the old gasket I want make sure I use the best replacement gasket and spend the least amount of time repeating that task. This is a great product and worth the extra cost.

I have used the original BGE replacement gaskets and the other one that you install with 3M adhesive. Neither one of these lasted more than one or two uses. On the other hand, the Nomex gasket works like a charm. Installation is simple if you take the time to clean the grill edge first. I have fired up the grill a dozen times and it looks the same as when I first put it on.
Highly recommended.

The package arrive quickly and in excellent condition as always from Amazon.com. The Fire Starter is amazing. I purchased it for my husband's birthday and he was very excited about it, thankfully it was cold enough outside to warrant having a fire in the fireplace and the Fire Starter worked perfectly and started the fire much better than we have been able to do this year, it seems like our wood still may be a little green but that didn't stop the Fire Starter, it was the best fire we have had all season. Seriously. Then my husband tried it on the charcoal grill and it worked great for that as well. He is very happy with the Fire starter.

I purchased this after my looft lighter stopped working. The looft lighter worked great and lasted a couple years with heavy year round usage. I chose this lighter hoping the dual speed might decrease the time needed to spread the fire to surrounding coals. However, I can't honestly see any advantage with the second blower speed. Aside from the 2nd blower speed, I can't see any difference between the two products. Hopefully this lighter will last at least as long as the looft lighter.

I have been using the DigiQ for several years now. I consider it a must for anyone who is using their charcoal cooker for long cooks at low (200-250 Degree F) temperatures. With charcoal cooking, one of the hardest things is to get your charcoal properly lit and then not have your dome temperature be way hotter than you wanted it to be for what you are going to cook - meaning you have to leave the lid closed and wait until the temperature drops back to your desired temperature. With the DigiQ, problem solved... I put my electric starter in the charcoal for about 5 minutes, then pull it out, close the lid and turn on the DigiQ - a few minutes later, the cooker is at the temperature I want it to be at and will stay there until my cook is done or until the cooker runs out of charcoal... You have seperate probes that monitor both the meat temperature and the dome temperature. You can program the DigiQ to lowers the pit temperature as food temperatures approach the done setpoint so the food never overcooks. Depending upon what type and size of charcoal cooker you use, the recommended draft fan size and the fan adapter needed will vary, so do a little homework before you purchase.

All that Mac said! I don't know how I lived without it. Actually, yes I do. For long overnight cooks, I would get up 3 or 4 times to check out the cooker. Would even set an alarm clock. Never could get the cooker set right because the outside temperature changes throughout the night. Even for day long cooks, I was always going over to double check. Now all I do is set the DigiQ and walk away.

I had a couple of problems with this product, Digi Qx2. First, the glass fell out of the LED. The first time, BBQ Guru sent me a new one immediately so customer service was good. However, the second time, I had to send them the product and I was without it a couple of weeks while they glued it back together. I'm very careful with this product. I think they used bad glue for the glass that did not hold up to cold temperatures. My second problem is that both probes stopped working. I emailed them and did not get a response for about two weeks and after two emails. During that time, I took the plastic casing off and found that the wire was not soldered on the probe well and it disconnected. After no response, I soldered the wires myself and it seems to be running fine. A little disappointed in the quality when you pay a high price for this product. I have had the digi Qx2 for about 6 or so months. I asked them to send me new ones. They want me to send them mine, which will shut down my cooking for a couple of weeks. :(

We no longer buy take out pizza or frozen pizza because this pizza stone makes THE BEST pizza! Armed with the right pizza dough (I went through 4 or 5 recipes before finding the one in Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking), making pizza is a breeze. My husband, who is a pizza lover, has finally approved my homemade pizzas! While we love the green egg, I will also use this stone in my oven. I will set the oven to 550 degrees, and let it sit in the oven for about an hour to make sure the stone is heated through. When I remove my pizza from the stone, the crust comes out crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. I had the Pampered Chef pizza stone, and the intructions that came with this stone stated not to put the stone in an oven higher than 450 degrees. The Pampered Chef stone is very thin, and I guess may crack under high heat. The pizzas never came out tasting the same as they do on the Big Green Egg stone. I now always keep pizza dough and various pizza ingredients on hand for last minute meals or unexpected company. The cost to make homemade pizza is a fraction of what you would spend buying from the store. This stone will pay for itself after a few pizzas and it will produce the best tasting pizzas.

As far as pizza stones go this one is high quality. I let the Big Green Egg go past 700 degrees and this pizza stone didn't care. I've used it to make a couple pizzas and calzones already and despite nicking it on the side of the BGE a couple times it hasn't chipped or anything. I did notice that with semi aggressive scraping though that I could wear it down.

This has been by far the best accessory I have purchased yet for my grill. I love how one surface of the grate is flat and just give it a flip for those sharper grill marks you can get on the other side. Also, I love the spacing between the grates. Not too wide so you don't drop too much food into the hot coals below. Love the even heat retention that cast iron provides! Great product.

This product is absolutely perfect for the Big Green Egg. Love the BGE but the company needs to ditch the ash grate they are using now and use this one instead. It allows the BGE to hit and stabilize faster at high temps. But much more important to me..........it's make low and slow smoking a thousand percent easier. Before getting the High Que grate and during 12 to 28 hour cooks (Brisket and Pork Butts) I would have to get up a couple times during the night and use a wiggle rod to keep the temp stable at 250 dome, now I sleep like a rock all night and the temp holds steady. Oh, that is so nice. I have two friends that recently purchased BGE and I told them to order the High Que as soon as they decided to get the Egg. If I ever get another Egg there will a High Que grate waiting for the Egg to get my house. Yes, I believe it's that important. The grate arrived two days after placing the order. Wondeful service. You will use a bit more lump because the ash openings in this grate are bigger, the diameter of nickel (give or take) can fall through to the fire box. Whatever, when I cooking a $40.00 dollar brisket or 30 pounds of pork butt, I personally don't care if I use a "extra" half pound of lump. Just Saying! If you have BGE this a must have for those long and slow cooks! Happy Smoking!!

This grate has made my BGE life so much easier it's incredible. Everything they say about it is correct. Newspaper lighting really works, ash falls easily, and air flow is greatly improved (this is the big one for me). Yesterday, I lit some paper under the grate, then a couple of minutes later tried to light it from the top with a starter. The up-draft kept blowing out the starter! Over 400 in 10-15 minutes. Every egg should have one.

I have used this grate 3 times now and have to say that it is indeed an instant upgrade. As others have said, I think the BGE company should make this standard issue. With the cast iron OE grate, I usually had a bit of trouble adjusting the temps... probably just me. With this grate in place, I have a fire ready for cooking in about 15 minutes and can maintain accurate temperatures quite easily. I am in the middle of a brisket cook right now...I started the Egg with my new electric BGE charcoal starter, let it heat up to 225 degrees (which only took another 8 or 9 minutes) then put the meat on. I adjusted the daisy wheel so just the "petals" were open and closed the bottom vent to about 1/2 inch open. The temperature settled to 225 in about 1/2 hour as the meat warmed up and remained exactly there for the next three hours. I have put the meat into a foil pan for the remaining time. The temp is still rock steady at 225. Others have commented at the relatively high cost of this upgrade, but I think it is definitely worth every penny. It is very solidly made and truly a quality item made in the USA. You get what you pay for, and this grate should last a very long time.
